Telefonica and Netflix extend alliance until 2026

Telefonica and Netflix have announced a renewal of the carriage deal signed back in May 2018 to integrate the streaming service on the operator’s Movistar+ pay-TV platform in Spain. In a series of tweets, the partners said the agreement paves the way for “five more years of great stories together”, without providing further details other than a reference to hit series including “Money Heist” and a list of forthcoming Netflix offerings such as the second series of “Bridgerton”, the fourth series of “Stranger Things” and the new Spanish title “Feria, The Darkest Light”.

The previous three-year agreement, which covered Europe and Latin America, was a pioneering deal when it was signed, leading to the full integration of Netflix content on the Movistar+ platform and a series of Movistar Fusion convergent offers containing standard and premium Netflix subscriptions.

The response was immediate, in that more than a third of new Movistar customers signed up to the new packages within 3 months of their launch, while 35 percent of existing Movistar Fusion subscribers opted to contract Netflix.
