Telefonica, China Unicom strike PoPs sharing agreement
Telefonica International Wholesale Services and China Unicom have signed an agreement to expand and strengthen their global presence by sharing points of presence (PoPs) in their international networks. Under the terms of the agreement, Telefonica will be able to access China Unicom's points of presence in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Australia, France, and Sweden. China Unicom will be able to access Telefonica's PoPs in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, US, Puerto Rico, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Holland, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Telefonica to raise stake in China Unicom to 10% this year

Telefonica plans to increase its stake in China Unicom (Hong Kong) from 8.4 percent to 10 percent this year, reports Dow Jones citing a company spokesman. Telefonica has said it wants to increase its stake in China Unicom to 10 percent, but had not said when. Telefonica's chairman Cesar Alierta made the comments about the stake in New York in a meeting with journalists, the spokesman added. Telefonica has been growing its stake in the Chinese company as it looks to tap the Chinese telecommunications market.

Telefonica, China Unicom launch first joint equipment order

Telefonica and China Unicom have launched the first joint equipment order, following their partnership agreement and share swap deal completed in October 2009. The tender targets over 40 telecoms equipment providers worldwide. The contract is worth approximately EUR 1745 million, Cinco Dias reports. The tender winner is expected to be announced in March.
