Telekom Austria Group dissolves CFO contract early
Telekom Austria Group's supervisory board and chief financial officer (CFO) Hans Tschuden have agreed to prematurely dissolve his contract on 31 May 2014 after the annual general meeting (AGM). They did not give a reason for the decision. His successor will be announced in due course. Tschuden has been CFO of Telekom Austria AG since 01 April 2007 and was appointed Vice Chairman of the Management Board of Telekom Austria on 01 January 2009.

Telekom Austria CEO attacks EU mobile network access plans

Telekom Austria Group CEO Hannes Ametsreiter has criticised EU plans to force mobile network operators to reserve capacity on their networks for rivals without infrastructure at low prices. In an interview with business magazine 'Wirtschaftswoche', Ametsreiter said it was absurd to create a situation where it was cheaper not to own any network infrastructure. He warned that the plans could damage investment in network infrastructure.

Telekom Austria Group's domestic unit A1 has launched a new m-parking application on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the 'Handy Parken' service. The new app offers improved technology, fresh design and a new range of user-friendly features. Telekom Austria Group has successfully tested 400 Gbps technology between Zagreb in Croatia and Ljubljana in Slovenia. The field trial was conducted between 24 February and 06 March and tested 400 Gbps technology on existing fibre-optic cables, in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent. Telekom Austria Group members Vipnet (Croatia) and Si.mobil (Slovenia) participated in the trial, which realised speeds four times the previous maximum, at 400 Gbps per 100 GHz wavelength. Macedonia's Vip operator, a Telekom Austria Group company, has announced the appointment of Gernot Rasch as the new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). He is currently responsible for the Marketing Department of Croatian subsidiary Vipnet and will take over his new position in Skopje from 01 April.

Mobiltel faces EUR 30 mln charge to extend licence

Telekom Austria's Bulgarian unit Mobiltel will have to pay up to EUR 30 million to renew its licence, which expires in June, reports APA citing a report in Bulgarian newspaper 'Kapital'. The licence will then be extended by 10 years. Telekom Austria Group CFO Hans Tschuden said that it would finance the licence fee from its cashflow. Previously, mobile operators in Bulgaria only had to pay an administrative charge of EUR 180 to extend their licence.

America Movil now controls 26.81% of Telekom Austria

Telekom Austria Group has been informed by Schoenherr Rechtsanwaelte that Carso Telecom, which is indirectly controlled by America Movil, has completed the transaction to purchase a total of 13.90 million shares of Telekom Austria from Inmobiliaria Carso and Control Empresarial de Capitales. Regulatory approval for the transaction was granted on 11 March. Internet is indispensable for Austrian seniors - study

Over 90 percent of senior citizens (60+) in Austria have a mobile phone and almost one third (32%) make calls using a smartphone, according to research by GfK for Telekom Austria Group. The study shows that 50 percent of this generation use the internet on a daily basis, with more than two thirds using TV, newspapers and radio daily. Telekom Austria picks Huawei DRA platform for LTE roaming

Telekom Austria has awarded Huawei a contract to supply a technology platform for the expansion of Telekom Austria's LTE data roaming services. Currently, Telekom Austria provides LTE coverage to about 45 percent of the Austria population. By integrating Huawei's Diameter Router Agents (DRA), Telekom Austria's LTE network will be able to handle international 4G traffic in future, too. Telekom Austria Group reported fourth-quarter revenues down 5.6 percent from a year earlier to EUR 1.056 billion, hurt by regulatory price cuts, the shift to flat-rate pricing and negative currency effects.
