Telia Finland deploys 5G robot at Helsinki Airport

Telia Finland is launching a 5G network at Helsinki Airport and starting a project with airport operator Finavia to bring 5G to airport operations. Finavia will be Telia's first customer using the pre-commercial 5G network in Finland. A 5G robot has started operating in the non-Schengen area of T2 terminal to carry out service tasks.

The robot can air a live video stream from the terminal and enable monitoring of the terminal area through remote or autonomous control and see that everything is running as it should, said Heikki Koski, chief digital officer at Finavia. The robot can also guide passengers in the terminal.

The data transmission and control of the robot is carried over a 5G base station at the airport. The network, based on technology by Nokia, uses the 28 GHz frequency band.

Telia wins multi-year contract including data network and mobile services from Finnair

Telia Finland said it has won a sizeable, multi-year contract to provide communications services to airline Finnair, including a global data network and secure mobile services. Finnair IT director Petteri Skaffair said online services are a key factor in its customer service and ease of work. He said Telia's services will support its employees and improve its telecommunications network as a whole, and Finnair will focus on clear savings.

Telia, Ericsson bring 5G network on stream at KTH in Stockholm

Telia Company said that it and Ericsson have started up Sweden's first 5G network at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. Telia said this is the first step towards the commercial launch of Swedish 5G in 2020. The three parties have developed an innovation arena where 5G applications can be tested at the campus with the support of industry players, but the network is permanent.

Nokia signs EUR 250 mln loan from Nordic Investment Bank for 5G R&D

Nokia said it has signed a EUR 250 million loan transaction with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) to finance research and development activities related to 5G. The loan has an average maturity of approximately five years after disbursement and will be directed towards R&D focused on 5G activities in Europe from 2018-2020, including IoT applications in various sectors.

Telia Finland lanceert een 5G-netwerk op de luchthaven van Helsinki en start een project met luchthavenbeheerder Finavia om 5G naar luchthavenactiviteiten te brengen. Finavia zal Telia's eerste klant zijn die het pre-commerciële  5G-netwerk in Finland gebruikt. De 5G-robot is actief in het niet-Schengengebied van de T2-terminal en voert servicetaken uit.

Telia starts up 5G network in Oulu

Telia Finland said it has become the first operator to start up a 5G network in Oulu, in the Oritkari-Nuottasaari area, with the aim of benefiting businesses in the industrial and logistics sectors. Rauno Jokelainen, product development manager for Smart Radio at Nokia, said Oulu is one of the most important locations for Nokia's 5G R&D and mobile network products.

Nokia said that it has held trials with ABB and Cargotec unit Kalmar of the low latency capabilities of 5G to support time-critical applications and improve protection and efficiency in smart electricity grid and harbour automation. The trials were conducted as part of the Wireless for Verticals (WIVE) research project.

Telia uses 5G, AR to help forest industry

Telia has trialed augmented reality (AR) and 5G use cases for the forest industry, together with Stora Enso, a pulp and paper manufacturer based in Helsinki, Finland. The services were tested at Stora Enso's mill in Oulu, using real-time information to help the mill's maintenance.

Telia Finland said that Telia Company CEO Johan Dennelind has inaugrated a pilot 5G network in Helsinki, adding that the operator aims to start commercial 5G services at the beginning of 2019. Jan Lindgren, senior vice president of customer relations at Nokia, said the equipmenet provider has introduced the first 5G-standard AirScale base stations in Finland.

The service Cinia provides to ANS Finland consists of reception and handling of notifications related to various technical systems.
