The 5G Hub works on 5G and 4G networks, and can support up to 20 devices via Wi-Fi. The device also features an Ethernet port and USB-C port. The Hub runs on Android 9 Pie, and includes a 5-inch touch screen.
Telstra started rolling out 5G in 10 cities across Australia. Over the next 12 months, the operator plans to expand its 5G coverage almost 5-fold and reach at least 35 Australian cities. All of Telstra’s 5G devices will work in its 5G and 4GX coverage areas, the company said.
At end-June, Telstra plans to launch its new mobile plans, and reduce the number of plans it currently provides on the local market. Telstra customers will be able to decide on the core connectivity plan they want and then add to this package a new handset, wireless earphones or a video streaming service. Customers will also be able to choose the data inclusions they want as a base plan, and then opt for an “add on” to increase their data allowance.
Telstra also reports that, when it launches its new plans in June, it will make 5G available for free for a minimum of 12 months, so everyone with a compatible device will be able to try the operator’s 5G service when they are in a 5G coverage area. Once this free trial period ends, customers on Telstra’s top two plans will have 5G connectivity included in their plan at no extra charge, and customers on other plans will have the option of adding 5G connectivity for a fee of AUD 15 per month.
Customers who buy a 5G-enabled device before Telstra launches its new plans, or are a part of the Samsung S10+ upgrade program, will receive 5G access for no additional charge for the life of their contract.
