Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey announced he's giving USD 1 billion to Covid-19 relief efforts. The money comes from his shares in Square and is equal to around 28 percent of the executive's wealth.
The funds will be deployed by the new charity Start Small. After working on the global pandemic, the group will focus on supporting girl’s health and education, and universal basic income, Dorsey announced on Twitter. He pledged to operate transparently, with regular disclosures of how the money is distributed.
Dorsey said he was selling shares in Square rather than Twitter because he owns a lot more of Square, and the stock sales will be paced over time.
