The UK government, via the department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, is inviting companies, universities and other organisations to bid for public funds aimed at supporting 5G test beds and trials. Overall, GBP 25 million will be made available for projects focusing on the 5G ecosystem, as part of the GBP 1 billion budget earmarked to support the country’s telecom infrastructure in last year’s autumn statement.
The government invited interested parties to come forward with project proposals for match funded grants of up to GBP 5 million. Projects are expected to be industry-led or have a strong industry component and funding will only be available to UK registered organisations, carrying out projects in the UK and working in collaboration with others.
