US Senate drop plans to continue ban on ZTE

US Senators have eliminated language from a defense bill that would have reinstated a ban on ZTE, responding to a call by President Donald Trump not to oppose his reprieve of ZTE. The Chinese manufacturer has since paid USD 1.4 billion in fines and resumed operations

Many in the Senate objected to allowing ZTE to come back, viewing the move as a security risk. But Senate Republican leadership has now let go of its opposition to ZTE being reinstated. Some senators rued the move, saying that if the Senate is not willing to take on ZTE, how will it take on a much larger company like Huawei.
