Veon names Axiata's Abdullah as CEO of Veon Ventures

Veon announced that Mohammad Khairil Abdullah will join the Veon Group as CEO of Veon Ventures,  effective from 01 March 2022. He will be based at the company's HQ in Amsterdam alongside the group leadership team.

Abdullah is currently with the Axiata mobile operator group in South-East Asia. As CEO of Axiata Digital Services, he has built and operated successful digital businesses in data, AI, fintech and system integration, while securing attractive venture capital opportunities and relevant external funding, Veon said.

Axiata Group has announced that Izzaddin Idris will step down from his position of group CEO, effective 31 May. The board has appointed Axiata's CEO for its telecommunications business and executive vice-president Hans Wijayasuriya, and group chief financial officer Vivek Sood as interim joint acting group CEOs, effective 1 June. They will retain their current positions and portfolios.

Veon announced that Karen Linehan, former General Counsel of Sanofi, joined the Veon board as a non-executive director. Linehan's appointment fills the vacancy created with the resignation of Steve Pusey in 2021.

Veon Group has announced that its subsidiary Veon Finance Ireland Designated Activity Company has concluded bank financing of RUB 90 billion (almost USD 1.22 billion) guaranteed by Veon Holdings B.V.

Veon appoints new CEO of Beeline Kyrgyzstan

Veon announced that Andrey Pyatakhin has been appointed the CEO of Beeline Kyrgyzstan. Pyatakhin joined Veon Group in 2001 and served the group for over 20 years in various capacities, including as the CEO of Beeline Georgia, the CEO of Beeline Armenia and most recently as Beeline Russia's vice president for the Southern Region.

Veon plans global roll-out of MobileID

The Veon Group has announced the global launch of its MobileID initiative, an authentication, credentials management and permission control system that will safeguard consumers and protect retail companies. Veon intends to roll out MobileID to its 212 million customers across nine countries as well as offering it as the standard for mobile operators worldwide to provide digital identity validation that is fully compliant with local data privacy laws.

Veon aligns executive compensation with total shareholder returns

The Veon Group announced a long-term incentive plan for its group executive management staff that aligns executive rewards with the creation of shareholder value. This is expected to strengthen linkages between pay and long-term performance while increasing the equity component of compensation through the introduction of performance shares with a three-year vesting period, the company said.

Veon targets double-digit revenue growth in 2022-24, plans lower capex and more tower sales

Veon has announced new financial targets at an analyst meeting, of a 10-14 percent CAGR in revenues measured in local currencies and EBITDA growth over the next three years. The operator said it expects its recent investments in 4G networks to pay off in accelerated revenue growth in the period 2022-24. At the same time, it will explore more sales of tower assets, after recently completing a deal in Russia.

Veon Ventures increases investment in Bangladesh's ShopUp

Veon increased its investment in Bangladeshi B2B commerce platform ShopUp. The investment has been made by the group's Veon Ventures division alongside Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures, Prosus Ventures (formerly Naspers Ventures), Flourish Ventures and Sequoia Capital India, as part of ShopUp's Series B investment round.

Veon co-CEO steps down but stays on as advisor

Veon Group has announced that Sergi Herrero, the co-CEO of the company who joined in September 2019, will be stepping down from the role effective 30 June. Herrero is expected to continue advising the company, in particular with respect to the Veon Ventures businesses, which focus on generating value in high growth areas.
