Vodafone Germany activates gigabit Wi-Fi hotspots

Vodafone Germany CEO Hannes Ametsreiter has activated Germany's first gigabit seed hotspot at CeBIT. As a result, people can get a live gigabit experience in the Vodafone network at the 'Die Eins' restaurant, which is located close to the Reichstag parliament building. Two further Vodafone gigabit hotspots are at Tiffany's Cafe on Ku-Damm and at Allegretto Cafe near the Brandenburg Gate.

Ametsreiter said that the new gigabit hotspots are the first step towards the gigabit society. They offer free Wi-Fi 24 hours a day. People using the hotspots can experience downlink rates of up to 1 Gbps and upload rates of up to 600 Mbps.

Vodafone Germany is launching a new range of smartphone tariffs for young people called Vodafone Young. All tariffs offer phone and SMS flat-rates to all German networks, with varying data allowances at LTE speeds. Targeted at customers aged 18-25 years, the Smart Young, Red Young, Red Young L and Red Young XL plans cost EUR 19.99, EUR 29.99, EUR 39.99 and EUR 49.99 per month respectively, with mobile data allowances of 1GB, 3GB, 6GB or 10GB. Vodafone Germany offers LTE data across all plans

Vodafone Germany will make its LTE network available to all consumers from 14 April, whether they are existing or new customers. As a result, all contract and pre-paid customers will enjoy LTE mobile data speeds across all tariffs. It will also increased data allowances for its Red smartphone tariffs - with Red 2 becoming Red 3 GB, Red 4 becoming Red 6 GB, and Red 8 becoming Red 10 GB.

Vodafone to take pre-orders on Huawei P9 from 8 April

Vodafone Germany announced that it will take pre-orders for the Huawei P9 smartphone from 8 April. The new device will be available in shops from 15 April for EUR 569.90. In combination with a Red plan, subscribers can get the smartphone for EUR 9.90 per month. Those buying the handset by 22 April receive a EUR 100 voucher for online photo service Pixum.

Vodafone Germany's mobile network is suffering nationwide disruption, reports inside-handy.de. Following complaints from customers about having no reception, Vodafone confirmed via Twitter that it was experiencing 'cross-regional disruption' and that engineers were working to restore services.

Vodafone supports telemedicine project for diabetics

Vodafone Germany is working on a telemedicine project to help diabetes patients in co-operation with the West German Diabetes and Health Centre (WDGZ). The project involves 200 selected diabetes patients, who collect their health readings at home and send via mobile to doctors. These are used to create personal eating and exercise plans for patients, which are discussed in weekly video conferences between with their doctors. Vodafone Germany accelerates ultrafast network roll-out

Vodafone Germany confirmed that it has rolled out 200 Mbps broadband technology to more than 12 million households. As a result, 25 million Germans have access to double vectoring speeds. It will further expand its fibre cable network roll-out in the coming months, with the aim of supplying ultrafast 400 Mbps services to 60 percent of all households within its operating region by autumn 2016.

Vodafone Germany is selling intelligent headphones from Munich-based start-up Bragi in its shops. The headphones have an integrated MP3 player, fitness tracker and hands-free function. 'The Dash' will be available in larger Vodafone shops from mid-April, as well as online.

Vodafone Germany feels business customer price pressure

Vodafone Germany is struggling with the price war for business customers, reports the dpa-AFX news agency. CEO Hannes Ametsreiter told the 'Boersen-Zeitung' newspaper that there was 'enormous pressure on prices', which is being felt by both Vodafone and rival Deutsche Telekom. Ametsreiter is now looking to cement and further exploit the recent turnaround in pre-paid customers, adding that pre-paid was a 'very large and important sector'.

Vodafone Germany is expanding its secure Cloud & Hosting portfolio with the new Total Cloud Flex product. This combines the benefits of a private cloud with the flexibility of a public cloud, allowing customers to scale their IT resources 'on demand'. Their data remains stored in a high security, certified virtual private cloud environment that can be managed via a self-service portal. Vodafone Germany prepares networks for gigabit society

Vodafone Germany is preparing the country for the gigabit society. In 2016, it will double its cable and mobile and data rates, with many of its radio masts then delivering speeds of more than 500 Mbps. Vodafone Germany, Ericsson and the Technical University of Dresden will be demonstrating 5G progress at CeBIT. Their researchers have set up a 15 gigabit wireless network with stable transmissions across a distance of 10 metres. The Vodafone 5G network at CeBIT can deliver data rates of up to 15 Gbps over a distance of 10 metres in a real environment. Vodafone Germany refreshes Red Business+ tariffs

Vodafone Germany is abolishing roaming costs for business customers with the launch of the new Red Business+ portfolio, available from 04 April. These new plans include allnet flat-rates for calls and texts within Germany as well as the EU and Switzerland. Vodafone Germany has been named best mobile network operator by 'connect' magazine, which measured customer satisfaction. Vodafone was the only mobile network operator in Germany to get a rating of 'very good', scoring highly for network quality, price-performance ratio, customer service and brand image.
