Vodafone Germany launches 4.5G services at up to 375 Mbps

Vodafone Germany has announced the launch of 4.5G mobile technology, supporting speeds of up to 375 Mbps. The new technology will be rolled out in 30 cities across the country by end-2016, with new 4.5G base stations now live in 22 of these cities. These include the centres of Berlin, Dresden, Duesseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Hanover.

The roll out of 4.5G technology coincides with the launch of the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in Germany. The new 4.5G speeds can be used by customers with an LTE Max smartphone tariff. The technology is also supported by the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones.

Vodafone deploys triple carrier aggregation in 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz bands.

Vodafone Germany has confirmed the launch of speeds up to 500 Mbps on its LTE network. The company announced last year tests aggregating spectrum in the 800, 1,800 and 2,600 MHz bands to reach half a gigabit a second. It's now deploying the technique across its 4G network. Vodafone Germany LTE network reaches 500 Mbps

Vodafone Germany has upgraded its LTE network in Berlin and Dusseldorf to allow download speeds of up to half a gigabyte per second. Previously, the maximum speed possible over Vodafone's LTE networks was 375 Mbps in some German cities. Vodafone demonstrated the new network capability using a Sony Xperia XZ. However, customers will need to install firmware updates to access the new high-speed network. These are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2017, according to a statement from Vodafone.

Vodafone Germany to launch new Business Black+ tariff

Vodafone Germany will launch a new unlimited data flat-rate for business customers from 26 October, teltarif.de reports. The new Vodafone Business Black+ tariff will cost EUR 169 per month net or EUR 200 per month gross. This EUR 200 price is the same as the existing Vodafone Black tariff, which is currently available for both private and business customers and offers a flat-rate for calls and texts, plus 30 GB mobile data.

Vodafone Germany tops DKI mobile provider study

Vodafone Germany confirmed that it has been named top mobile provider by the Deutsche Kundeninstitut (DKI) with an overall score of 91.1 points. Vodafone was awarded an overall rating of 'very good'. Subsidiary Otelo also gained a 'very good' rating with an overall score of 90.1 points. Aldi Talk was in 3rd place (87.2 points, very good); followed by Fonic (86.3 points, good); and 1&1 (85.8 points, good). DKI examined a total of 16 mobile service providers in a study commissioned by 'Wirtschaftswoche'.

Vodafone Germany stops CallYa Toppings programme

Vodafone Germany is shutting down its CallYa Toppings bonus programme for pre-paid customers, teltarif.de reports citing Caschys Blog. Vodafone is informing customers that the programme will be closed from 01 November. The scheme, which rewards customers for topping up, has been running for three years.

Vodafone Germany now offers LTE roaming in 100 countries, with Moldova supported from 15 September. For travel within the EU and other countries, Vodafone has launched 'Giga Travel' to abolish EU roaming fees for new customers and those extending contracts for Red tariffs, as well as for all pre-paid users.

Vodafone Germany is expanding the Vodafone Wallet service through a partnership with Gutscheinbuch.de. The partnership will allow Vodafone to offer a wide selection for free vouchers for food & drink, shopping, hotels, wellness and spa, and leisure activities to customers. From end-October, Vodafone customers across all regions will have access to up to 4,000 mobile coupons/vouchers through Vodafone Wallet. Gutscheinbuch.de is a leading coupon provider with over 15 million coupons sold to date.

Vodafone Germany announced the launch of its own-brand tablet, the Vodafone Tab prime 7. Vodafone Germany has opened its WiFi Calling to all customers. Those who are not subscribed to a GigaKombi tariff pay EUR 2.99 during a minimum contract term of 24 months, telraif.de reports. The service is only available within Germany with the Samsung smartphones Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy A5 as well as with the LG G5. Vodafone Germany rolls out Crystal Clear technology

Vodafone Germany has announced the roll out of Vodafone Crystal Clear technology across its LTE mobile network to improve voice quality. The first smartphones supporting this new technology will launch in the coming weeks. The technology is based on so-called Enhanced Voice Services (EVS) Codecs, which expand the voice service to the entire frequency range heard by humans of 20 kHz, instead of 7 kHz. Free firmware updates will be made available to customers with supporting smartphones.
