Xiaomi releases Mix 4 smartphone, enters robot market with open-source CyberDog project

Xiaomi has unveiled a new flagship phone in its autumn product launch, as well as a robot dog for open-source development. The Xiaomi Mix 4 with an under-screen camera and the latest Snapdragon 888+ processor launches first in China on 16 August, starting at CNY 4,999 (EUR 658).

The phone comes with 6.67-inch curved Amoled display with the latest CUP (Camera Under Panel) technology for the front 20-megapixel camera. With a new lightweight ceramic unibody design, the 5G phone also supports UWB, dual speakers with sound by Harman Kardon, 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

The Mix 4 comes with a 108-megapixel rear camera with OIS and 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology. The rear camera also includes an 8-megapixel periscope lens with up 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom and a 13-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens.

The phone comes in a choice of black, white or the new gray colour inspired by China’s Song Dynasty porcelain. With LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, customers have a choice of 8 or 12 GB RAM and 128, 256 or 512 GB internal storage. A new generation wireless charging stand was also released, priced at CNY 599, and an "eco-friendly" leather case, for CNY 149.

Open-source CyberDog

Xiaomi also introduced its new quadruped robot, called CyberDog, available to developers as an open-source project for Xiaomi fans to participate in making. Xiaomi is releasing 1,000 units at CNY 9,999 each.

The robot uses Xiaomi’s in-house developed servo motors for high-speed movements up to 3.2m/s and complicated actions such as backflips. It runs the Nvidia Jetson Xavier NX platform for AI computing power and comes with 11 high-precision sensors based in part on Xiaomi smartphone technology to provide instant feedback to guide its movements. The robot can be controlled with voice commands and includes USB and HDMI ports to attach accessories.
