Xiaomi releases upgraded 2021 version of Redmi Note 8

Xiaomi has officially launched the latest version of its hugely popular Redmi Note 8 smartphone, which had sold over 30 million units by May 2020. The Redmi Note 8 2021 has the same-sized 6.3-inch full HD screen as its predecessor but replaces the Snapdragon 665 chipset with MediaTek's Helio G85. It runs the company’s MIUI 12.5 OS based on Android 11 and comes with 4GB of RAM, plus 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Additional features include a quad camera system on the rear, including a 48-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel front-facing lens, a fingerprint sensor, plus a 4,000 mAh battery with 18W charging. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the handset also retains the 3.5mm minijack socket.

The Redmi Note 8 2021 is already available from Xiaomi’s official sales channels at an RRP of USD 169 for the 64GB version, rising to USD 189 for the 128GB.

Xiaomi reports record revenues, adjusted net profit in Q1

Xiaomi said revenues and adjusted net profit reached historic highs in the first quarter, boosted by the strong growth of smartphone shipments. In the quarter, the company said it continued scaling its AIoT platform and started exploring new opportunities, including an official foray into the smart electric vehicle business. Xiaomi shipped 4 million devices priced at or above CNY 3,000 in mainland China and EUR 300 or equivalent in overseas markets. The global shipment of smart TV reached 2.6 million units.

China smartphone market returns to growth in Q1, shipments up 27%

The mainland China smartphone market has returned to the level registered in the first quarter of 2019, one year after the COVID-19 pandemic first hit. Smartphone shipments grew by 92.4 million units in the first quarter of 2021, increasing 27 percent year-on-year, according to a report from Canalys. The report also shows that Vivo saw a 79 percent year-on-year growth, shipping 21.6 million units in the first three months of 2021.

Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 8 Pro with 64 MP camera from EUR 175

Xiaomi has unveiled in China the latest smartphones in its popular Redmi series, the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro. The company said the Note 8 Pro is the world's first officially announced smartphone with a 64 MP camera, using Samsung's GW1 64MP sensor. It also features a 6.5-inch 1080p screen, MediaTek's latest Helio G90T chipset and a quad-camera setup including the 64 MP primary camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, two assistive 2 MP sensors and a 20 MP front-facing camera.
