Yoigo launches 4G services in Spain

TeliaSonera’s Spanish subsidiary Yoigo has commercially launched 4G services on the local market. The 4G service is currently available in Madrid, where users can access speeds of up to 75 Mbps. Yoigo plans to extend its 4G network coverage to 48 percent of the country’s population by year-end, up from the initially planned 37 percent. By end-2013, Yoigo plans to offer 4G connections to over 22.5 million people in 100 cities with over 100,000 inhabitants across 43 provinces.

Yoigo provides 4G services using the 1800 MHz band. Back in May, Yoigo said it will invest over EUR 200 million in its 4G network deployment over the next two years.

Yoigo's 4G network already covers the provinces of Madrid, Malaga, Valencia, Barcelona, Alicante and Seville and the company plans to offer 4G services to over 22.5 million people in all Spanish cities with over 70,000 inhabitants by year-end, around 48 percent of the country's population.

Spanish mobile operator Yoigo has announced the launch of its 4G services in the provinces of Barcelona, Alicante and Seville. The specific municipalities covered are Alicante, Benidorm, Elche, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Badalona, Barcelona, Cornella de Llobregat, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Manresa, Mataro, Rubi, Sabadell, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Cugat del Valles, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Terrassa, Alcala de Guadaíra, Dos Hermanas and Seville.

Yoigo extends 4G network to Malaga, Valencia

Spanish mobile operator Yoigo has expanded its 4G services to the provinces of Malaga and Valencia. Launched in July, Yoigo's 4G service was up to now only available in Madrid. Yoigo's 4G services will now be also available to around 2 million customers in Malaga and Valencia.

Telefonica starts deployment of LTE network in Spain

Telefonica has started the deployment of its own 4G LTE network in Spain. Telefonica has selected Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson as suppliers for its 4G LTE network. In the first half of this year, Telefonica reports it has already invested EUR 627 million to prepare the deployment of its ultra-broadband (UBB) network that combines FTTH and LTE.

Vodafone Spain is expanding its 4G services to eight additional cities. Starting this month, customers in Santander, La Coruna, and Zaragoza can access Vodafone's 4G services. Ono to soon launch 500 Mbps broadband service

Spanish cable operator Ono will launch broadband connections with real download speeds of up to 500 Mbps "over the next few weeks", El Pais reports, citing Ono CEO Rosalia Portela. The statement was made at the XXVII UIMP telecommunications meeting in Santander. Ono's market competitors, including Vodafone and Orange, are currently offering broadband speeds ranging between 100 and 200 Mbps.

Yoigo to expand 4G tariff offering – report

Spanish mobile operator Yoigo plans to launch a 4G services tariff plan dubbed 'La Infinita 20', Yoiggers reports. The package will include unlimited voice calls to fixed and mobile national numbers, and 500 MB for mobile data traffic for a monthly fee of EUR 20. The minutes can be used for voice calls to up to 300 numbers per month.

Vodafone expands 3G network coverage in Catalonia resorts

Vodafone has expanded its 2G and 3G network coverage across Catalonia touristic resorts. The operator has also upgraded its 3G network coverage inside buildings in all coastal municipalities. Vodafone's 3G network has been expanded to include the Costa Brava, Costa Daurada and Costa del Maresm.

Yoigo, Movistar strike network sharing agreement

TeliaSonera's Spanish subsidiary Yoigo has confirmed it has reached a series of agreements with Movistar. These agreements enable Yoigo to sell combined fixed-mobile services to its customers, while Movistar will be able to offer its customers mobile services on Yoigo's 4G network.

Vodafone Spain to offer 4G at no extra costs

Vodafone will provide its postpaid contract subscribers with 4G services at no additional fee. The offer is available for subscribers to Voafone's Red, Red Pro and Base tariff plans, as well as for Vodafone yu customers, El Economista reports. Orange invests EUR 45 mln in Barcelona 4G network rollout

Orange Spain reports it has invested around EUR 45 million in its 4G network deployment in Barcelona. Orange has modernized its access and transmission network and made other investments related to 4G technology. Orange's 4G network currently covers the entire Barcelona metropolitan area, as well as the Hospitalet de Llobregat and El Prat areas.
