YouTube has decided to sharply reduce the production of Originals content. Chief business officer Robert Kyncl made the announcement via Twitter, saying the company will going forward only fund programmes that are part of its Black Voices and YouTube Kids Funds. YouTube division was created in 2016 under Susanne Daniels; she has announced her decision to leave the company from 1 March.
Kyncl said the YouTube Partner Program has over 2 million creators and that the company has paid over USD 30 billion to creators, artists and media companies over the past three years.
“With rapid growth comes new opportunities and now our investments can make a greater impact on even more creators when applied towards other initiatives, like our Creator Shorts Fund, Black Voices Fund, and Live Shopping programming to name a few,” the tweet said.
All commitments for already contracted shows in progress will be honoured.
