Ziggo says new Game of Thrones series attracts twice as many viewers

Twice as many people have watched the new season of 'Game of Thrones' at Ziggo as the previous one, the Dutch cable operator announced. Ziggo has the exclusive rights to the HBO series, which is available with its premium subscriptions. The show is broadcast each Monday night, just after its premier in the US.

The first two episodes of season seven attracted twice as many viewers as their equivalent in season six, Ziggo said. The first episode reached over 20 percent of viewers in its time slot.

The six previous GoT seasons are available to watch on-demand on Ziggo. These were also watched more in the run-up to the start of the new series. The figures show there is a huge market for quality on-demand content, Ziggo said.

Earlier research by the Telecompaper's Consumer Insights panel found that the exclusive content does not drive many consumers to switch TV providers. Only 1 percent of consumers without access to the HBO content said it was enough to make them switch to Ziggo.
