ZTE, Huawei pose security threat to US - report

Chinese telecoms equipment makers Huawei Technologies and ZTE pose a security threat to the US, reports Reuters citing a draft report from the House of Representatives' Intelligence Committee. The report, to be released on Monday 08 October, says that they should be shut out of the US market due to the security threat posed by Chinese state influence on them. Huang Leping, analyst at Nomura Securities, said the impact would be limited if the report is only referring to telecoms equipment such as routers and switches. However, if mobile handset are included as well, then the impact would be greater as both brands have been consistently gaining market share in the US, he added.
