MVNOs set to lose more share on Belgian mobile market after latest consolidation round

MVNOs maintained an over 8 percent share of the Belgian mobile market in 2022, according to the latest research from Telecompaper. They grew slightly faster than the total mobile market, to reach over 1.2 million customers. However, the planned takeovers of Voo and EDPnet will see the MVNO share of the market shrink significantly, to less than 6 percent of mobile customers in Belgium.

Proximus to face competition investigation into EDPnet takeover

The Belgian Competition Authority has opened an investigation into Proximus's proposed takeover of EDPnet. While the deal does not meet the minimum revenue threshold for a merger review, the regulator said it sees a risk of Proximus abusing its dominant market position.

Orange-Voo set to challenge market leaders in 2P, 3P after merger

The new combination of Orange and Voo on the Belgian telecom market is set to challenge Telenet for second place in the growing dual- and triple-play segments. According to the Q4 2022 edition of Telecompaper's quarterly research on the Belgian market, Orange and Voo together have nearly 30 percent of the double-play subscribers and more than 26 percent of triple-play customers, putting them just behind Telenet. Liberty Global makes buy-out offer for Belgian unit Telenet

Liberty Global has made an offer to buy out the minority shareholders in Belgian operator Telenet. Liberty Global said it will pay EUR 22 per share in cash, a premium of 59 percent over Telenet's closing price on 15 March, before the stock was suspended, and 52 percent over the company's average trading price in the previous month.

Orange Belgium wins clearance for Voo takeover

The European Commission has given its approval for Orange Belgium's proposed takeover of cable operator Voo. The deal was for Orange Belgium to buy a 75 percent stake in Voo, minus one share, at a valuation of EUR 1.8 billion for 100 percent of the company's shares.
