4iG to acquire Albanian mobile operator One

Hungary-based 4iG announced a final agreement to acquire Albanian One Telecommunications, the second-largest mobile operator in Albania with 1.36 million subscribers. The announcement comes soon after 4iG agreed to buy a majority stake in Albania’s largest telecoms company, Albtelecom, which provides fixed and mobile services.

In 2020, One achieved revenues of EUR 68.1 million and EBITDA of EUR 20.8 million, representing an EBITDA margin of over 30 percent. One's infrastructure includes 632 transmission towers suitable for 5G mobile communications, in addition to 4G services offering 98.5 percent population coverage.

After repositioning its services and brand, One, with 420 employees, has grown significantly its market share in the recent period, 4iG said, reaching 41 percent of the total Albanian mobile subscribers in the third quarter of 2021.

Albtelecom acquisition

The acquisition marks another step in 4iG’s expansion strategy in the Western Balkans. Completion of the transaction still requires regulatory clearance in Albania. If the deal is approved, the 4iG group will become Albania’s most prominent player in the telecoms sector, the company said. With its focus on the mobile market, the portfolio of One and Albtelecom, a fixed and mobile services provider, could create significant synergies.

The parties did not disclose the transaction's value.
