Indian operator Bharti Airtel has launched the first LTE services in the country, in Kolkata. The company announced earlier an equipment contract with ZTE for the roll-out. Customers can connect to the service at up to 40Mbps using a USB modem or wireless router, with a choice of three service plans available as prepaid or postpaid. The Breakfree plan costs INR 999 per month for 6GB data, Breakfree max costs INR 1,399 for 9GB and Breakfree ultra costs INR 1,999 for 18GB. After the monthly allowance is used up, the speed is cut to 128Kbps. Airtel said it will soon launch the service in additional areas, including Bengaluru, Karnataka, Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) and Punjab.
