Airtel may buy Qualcomm LTE permits for INR 60 bln - report
Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel is reportedly in advanced discussions with US chipmaker Qualcomm to buy its LTE licences for about INR 60 billion, reports The Economic Times. This acquisition would allow Airtel to launch LTE services in the markets of Delhi and Mumbai, Maharashtra. A person familiar with the development said the deal is likely to be closed by June and will be accompanied by technology agreements between Qualcomm and Airtel.

Airtel in talks with Chinese OEMs for MiFi devices - report

Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel is reportedly in advanced talks with Chinese OEMs to import MiFi devices that will enable people in India to access LTE services from their 3G smartphones on the move, reports The Economic Times. A top company executive aware of the development said that Airtel has tested some Chinese MiFi devices at the last Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and is talking to several OEMs to work out a bulk procurement deal.

Indian operator Bharti Airtel has launched the first LTE services in the country, in Kolkata. The company announced earlier an equipment contract with ZTE for the roll-out. ZTE confirms LTE contract with Airtel

ZTE confirmed a contract to plan, design, supply and deploy a LTE network in Kolkata, West Bengal for Bharti airtel. The Indian mobile operator is expected to launch its first LTE services in the city later this month. Further details of the contract were not announced.
