Algerian utilities form fibre consortium

Four Algerian state-owned utilities, Algerie Telecom, Sonatrach, Sonelgaz and railway operator SNTF, have formed Compagnie des Infrastructures de Telecommunications d'Algerie (CITA), whose responsibility will be "to manage the country's available fibre resources, establish a strategy for the sharing of alternative networks, and contribute to Algeria's internet infrastructure rollout", Agence Ecofin reports. ICT minister Moussa Benhamadi said at the signing ceremony that the new company is expected "to develop the fibre-optic nework through the rational use of Sonelgaz's electric network and to introduce ICT in isolated areas".
