Algerie Telecom to launch fixed-wireless LTE in May
After the launch of 3G at the end of 2013, Algerians will gain access to 4G in fixed wireless mode from May this year, telecom minister Zorha Derdouri announced on 15 March. Agence Ecofin reports that Derdouri also indicated that mobile LTE would not become commercially available until the end of 2015. State-owned company Algerie Telecom has been tasked with introducing 4G, she said, adding that the launch of fixed wireless LTE "illustrates the manifest willingness of the government to establish Algeria in the dynamic of building an information society and a digital economy".

Algerie Telecom has started offering LTE services to business operators, ahead of a consumer launch in the second half of the year. The Algerian government has identified a 20MHz duplex band to assign to Algerie Telecom to enable it to offer fixed wireless broadband using LTE technology, Maghreb Emergent reports. Algerie Telecom plans to roll out a LTE network to offer fixed wireless broadband services, CEO Azouaou Mehmel announced at a forum organised by the paper An Nasr. Algerie Telecom has tendered a contract to deploy a fixed-wireless network using LTE technology, CEO Azouaou Mehmel told APS.
