Alibaba to invest USD 28 bln into cloud computing division

Alibaba’s cloud computing division plans to put USD 28 billion (RMB 200 billion) over the coming three years into its cloud operating systems, servers, chips and networks, Xinhua reported. The money will go into developing core technologies and R&D in general. This will include the expansion of Aliyun’s data centres and servers.  

Alibaba Cloud Intelligence president Zhang Jianfeng noted that cloud intelligence was part of Alibaba's core strategies and that it would not be affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The cloud division has over 100 cloud data centres in 21 regions around the world.

Alibaba Cloud has unveiled a new Arm-based processor design developed in house for use in its data centres. Alibaba reports strong start to fiscal year, with revenue up 34%, EBITDA 30% higher in June quarter

Alibaba started its fiscal year on a strong foot, with revenues for its first quarter to end June jumping 34 percent year-on-year to CNY 153.75 billion. The adjusted EBITDA increased 30 percent to CNY 51.04 billion while the net profit more than doubled to CNY 46.44 billion. The free cash flow went 39 percent higher to CNY 36.57 billion. CEO Daniel Zhang said the company's domestic core commerce business has fully recovered to pre-covid 19 levels across the board.

Alibaba Cloud unveils services expansion strategy

Alibaba Group's cloud-computing division Alibaba Cloud has announced plans to expand its cloud services coverage and support. The company plans to increase its availability zones by launching its third data center in Indonesia in early 2021. The country will also become home to one of Alibaba Cloud's global data-scrubbing centers, and work towards removing malicious data and safeguarding customers from cyberattacks.

Alibaba Cloud has announced plans to invest CNY 2 billion (approximately USD 283 million) during this fiscal year "to empower global partners and accelerate joint innovations in the post [COVID-19] pandemic era". The investment aims to bring its partners up to speed with digitalisation capabilities and create joint products and services for customers across all sectors.

Alibaba guides for higher revenues after revenue growth of 22% in Q4

Revenues for Alibaba's fiscal fourth quarter rose 22 percent from the year to CNY 114.314 billion, compared to growth of 38 percent in the previous quarter and 40 percent in the one before that. The adjusted EBITDA increased by 1 percent to CNY 25.440 billion, against growth of 37 percent in fiscal Q3. The net profit meanwhile sank 88 percent to CNY 3.162 billion, compared to an increase of 62 percent sequentially.

Zain KSA cloud is distinguished as a public locally based cloud in Saudi Arabia, which is easy and completely secure, and is compatible with the country's data protection requirements.

Alibaba Cloud joins technology committee of Content Delivery and Security Association

Alibaba Cloud, the data intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, announced its latest elected membership to the Content Delivery and Security Association (CDSA) Technology Committee. Alibaba Cloud is the first China-based global cloud service provider to be elected to the Committee, which named 17 members to the committee for the annual term.
