Altice to invest USD 655 mln in Dominican Republic by 2024
Altice is set to invest around DOP 35 billion (some USD 655 million) in the Dominican Republic from 2019 to 2024, reports local daily El Nacional, citing Altice Dominicana CEO Ana Figueiredo. The chief executive said the investment is evidence of Altice’s “commitment to the digital transformation of the country” and will allow the company to further boost a fibre-optic network that currently reaches 1.5 million homes and businesses via 8,000 km of cable. The company also has an LTE network covering 98 percent of the local population via 1,600 antennas.

Altice Dominicana recently reported 9-month revenues of EUR 419.7 million, down from EUR 447.0 million a year earlier. The company currently has 3.1 million mobile customers, around 35 percent of the market, plus 288,540 fixed lines, corresponding to 23 percent of the country’s total.

Altice Dominicana Q2 revenues fall 16% on Covid slowdown

Altice announced revenues of EUR 118 million for its Altice Dominicana brand in the Dominican Republic in the second quarter of 2020, down 16.1 percent year on year on a reported basis or 4.2 percent on a constant currency basis, attributed to a commercial slowdown prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Second-quarter EBITDA fell to EUR 59 million, down 8.5 percent year on year, although the EBITDA margin remained steady at 49.9 percent on a reported basis due to lower operating costs.

Altice announced revenues of EUR 132.7 million for its Altice Dominicana brand in the Dominican Republic in the first quarter of 2020, down 4.5 percent year on year on a reported basis or 1.6 percent on a constant currency basis. First quarter adjusted EBITDA fell to EUR 66.5 million from EUR 70.8 million a year earlier, with operating profit declining to EUR 38.9 million from EUR 42.4 million. Altice Dominicana has announced a new agreement with Major League Baseball (MLB) and Grupo Multimedios del Caribe to broadcast games on channels CDN and CDN Sportsmax as well as on cable TV in the Dominican Republic.
