Amazon Prime Video reaches first pay-TV distribution deal with Comcast

Comcast and Amazon entered into an agreement to launch Prime Video on Comcast’s Xfinity X1. The deal gives Xfinity TV customers access to thousands of additional premium shows and movies over the internet and marks the first time Amazon Prime Video content would be integrated on a traditional pay-TV platform in the US.

Xfinity TV customers will be able to watch Prime Originals as well as live events and TV, titles available to rent or buy, or to watch with a Prime Video Channels subscription. Customers can search Prime Video content using Comcast’s X1 Voice Remote, as well as enjoy shows and movies available in 4K Ultra HD and HDR. The Amazon Prime Video app is expected to launch on X1 later in 2018.

Amazon announced Fire TV Cube, a hands-free 4K Ultra HD streaming media player with Alexa. Fire TV Cube lets end-users control their compatible TV, sound bar, A/V receiver, and cable or satellite box. Comcast Xfinity adds more international channels, languages

Comcast Xfinity TV customers can now access more channels. About 42 more networks are now available nationwide on Xfinity X1 and through the Xfinity Stream TV app and portal on mobile devices, computers, and Roku devices in the home. US consumers more satisfied with streaming services than pay-TV

American consumers are more satisfied with subscription video services than traditional pay-TV, according to the annual American Customer Satisfaction Index. It includes video streaming services for the first time in 2018, and these achieved  an ACSI score of 75 out of 100, versus 62 for pay-TV, which was down 3.1 percent over last year. The survey also found ISPs scoring poorly in terms of customer satisfaction.
