Android grows to over 87% of smartphone sales in Spain
Google's Android OS continued to extend its lead in the major markets of Europe in the three months to November, reaching as high as 87.3 percent of smartphone sales in Spain, according to Kantar WorldPanel. In Spain, the UK, France and Germany, Android's share was up 4-5 percent points from a year earlier. It showed the biggest increase in Italy, growing by 11.6 points year-on-year to 67.9 percent of smartphone sales. Android's share reached 55.7 percent in the UK, 65.5 percent in France and 74.7 percent in Germany.

Android's growth came largely at the expense of Apple and BlackBerry. The iOS market share was up only in Spain during the period, by 1.6 percent points year-on-year to 6.3 percent, while Apple's biggest market in the period was the UK, with a 30.6 percent share of smartphone sales.

BlackBerry shrunk to as little as 0.2 percent in Spain and had its highest market share in the UK, at 2.4 percent. The Windows OS showed steady growth across all five markets, reaching market shares as high as 16.0 percent in Italy and 12.9 percent in France.
