Apple passes 50 billion downloads on App Store
Apple has passed the milestone of 50 billion downloads on the iTunes App Store. The company earlier started a contest to give the person who downloaded the 50 billionth item a voucher worth USD 10,000 to spend on iTunes and another 50 people prizes worth USD 500. Apple reached 40 billion downloads in January, after the total doubled in 2012. 

Separately, Google reported that its Play store has passed 48 billion downloads. At its I/O developers conference, the company said it saw 2.5 billion Android apps installed in the last month alone.

Apple developer site hit by hacking attack

Apple reported a hacking attempt on its developer website. The company said "an intruder" attempted to secure personal information about registered developers. Apple app store reaches nearly 50 billion downloads

Apple has announced that nearly 50 billion apps have been downloaded worldwide from its App Store. The company is also announcing a contest in which the person who downloads the 50 billionth app will receive a USD 10,000 App Store gift card. App downloads grow 11 percent in 3 months - Canalys

Over 13.4 billion apps were downloaded from the four leading stores in the first quarter, 11 percent more than in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to Canalys. Direct revenue from paid-for apps, subscriptions and in-app purchases grew by 9 percent sequentially to USD 2.2 billion. Strong growth was seen in mature and emerging markets alike. Apple's App Store accounted for around 74 percent of revenue and Google Play for about 51 percent of downloads.
