Apple announced plans to open a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, India in order to support local iOS developers. In a visit to India, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the initiative will provide additional, specialized support for the "tens of thousands" of iOS developers in India.
At the new centre, Apple experts will lead briefings and provide one-on-one app reviews for developers. The facility will also provide support and guidance on Swift, Apple’s programming language created to build apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch.
The company chose Bengaluru as its home to more technology startups than any other part of India. Over 1 million people in the city work in the tech sector, and over 40 percent of graduates from local universities specialize in engineering or information technology. The iOS App Design and Development Accelerator is expected to open in early 2017.
Earlier this Indian press reported that Apple plans to open a development centre in Hyderabad on 19 May. The Economic Times, citing Telangana State IT Department secretary Jayesh Ranjan, said that Apple executives had already met with state government officials, requesting their support for some of the clearances. "They have already identified space in a building owned by Tishman Speyer at Nanakramguda. We are also extending support to the company in .. terms of obtaining necessary approvals from various departments," Ranjan said.
