Arcep shortens period for asymmetric rates at Free
French regulator Arcep has reduced the period during which new mobile operator Free Mobile will be able to charge higher termination rates. Following consultation with the European Commission, Arcep moved the deadline for ending the asymmetric rates back to 30 June 2013, from an original proposal of end-2013. The decision also applies to Lycamobile and Omea Telecom, the parent company of Virgin Mobile France. The final Arcep decision lowers the tariffs that will apply to the three operators to EUR 0.016 per minute retroactively from 01 July until the end of this year and EUR 0.011 for the following six months. This is down from EUR 0.024 currently.
