Asus introduces Zenfone 5 smartphones at MWC

Asus presented at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona its new Asus Zenfone 5 series of smartphones. The range comes with the Zenfone 5 and 5Z, which are nearly identical, as well as the Zenfone 5 Lite.

The main difference in the two flagship phones is the processor. The Zenfone 5Z uses Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845, while the Zenfone 5 runs the lower Snapdragon 636. In appearance, the two resemble the iPhone X, with a notch dipping into the screen at the top to hold the speaker, front camera and sensors. Both phones have a 19:8 screen ratio with a 6.2-inch full HD+ display.

The top-of-the-range Zenfone 5Z will be available with a choice of 4, 6 or 8 GB RAM and 64, 128 or 256 GB storage. The Zenfone 5 comes with 4 or 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. Both feature a double 12-megapixel camera on the back with sensors from Sony, as well as an 8 megapixel front camera, 3,300 mAh battery and Android 8.0.

The Zenfone 5 Lite comes with a smaller 6-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 ratio and the Snapdragon 630 processor. The device is what Asus claims the first in the world with four cameras — 20MP Sony at the front, 16MP at the rear and secondary wide-angle cameras on both the front and back. It also comes with a 3,300 mAh battery, triple-slot SIM/microSD card holder, face unlock and fingerprint recognition.
