Australia opens applications for 700 MHz spectrum auction

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is inviting applications from prospective participants in the April 2017 auction of spectrum licences in the 700 MHz band. The lots on offer remained unsold following the 2013 digital dividend auction.

The spectrum band to be auctioned in April was made available after Australia switched from analog to digital TV. ACMA expects the spectrum to be auctioned in April will be used to provide mobile voice and data coverage to regional and metropolitan Australia.

The application deadline has been set for 13 February. This is the date by which auction applicants must submit completed auction forms and pay the application fee. Auction applicants must submit completed lot preference nomination forms and make the substantial deposit by 16 March.

The ACMA is expected to soon announce the mock auction and notification of start date. The auction is expected to start on 4 April this year.
