
Barnes & Noble unveils Nook HD tablets

US retailer Barnes & Noble has unveiled its new Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets. The 7-inch Nook HD sells from USD 199/GBP 159, and the 9-inch HD+ starts at USD 269/GBP 229. Pre-orders start 26 September in the US and in late October in the UK. The tablets come with the new Nook Profiles, to support different users sharing the same device, as well as access to the new Nook Video service and an updated e-mail app supporting Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. The Nook HD, available in white or grey, comes with an IPS screen with 1440x900 resolution, 1.3GHz processor, 1GB RAM, a choice of 8GB or 16GB storage and a microSD card slot. The Nook HD+ offers a higher-resolution screen (1920x1280) with support for full HD, 1.5GHz processor and a choice of 16GB or 32GB storage. Barnes & Noble said the devices will start shipping to customers in the US in late October and be available in stores in the US and UK in November. The company is also launching a new design for the Nook Store with over 3 million e-books and introducing the Nook Catalog, to shop for other consumer goods such as clothing and home furnishings.
