Brazil 4G auction to take place 30 September
Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has published the rules for the auction of the 700 MHz band, which will be used to provide 4G services. The auction will take place on 30 September and should raise a minimum of BRL 7.7 billion. Six lots of frequencies are available, of which three have nationwide coverage for which a minimum bid of BRL 1.927 billion is required. Lot 4, with the exception of the coverage areas of operators CTBC and Sercomtel, will have a minimum price of BRL 1.893 billion, while the two regional lots will have starting prices of BRL 29.56 million and BRL 5.28 million, respectively. 

The deadline for submitting bids is 23 September. Anatel also said that the auction winners will have to pay BRL 3.6 billion in costs to resolve interference issues from TV channels currently occupying this frequency band. 4G is already provided in Brazil but in the 2.5 GHz frequency band.

Brazilian broadcasters say 4G compensation too little

The Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (Abert) has challenged the 700 MHz frequency auction for 4G, claiming that the amount planned for compensation to broadcasters is insufficient.
