Canonical announces Ubuntu Edge smartphone

Canonical has announced plans to raise USD 32 million to develop a smartphone running on Ubuntu. The fundraising will take place over 30 days on the site Indiegogo and go towards an initial production run of 40,000 Ubuntu Edge, the first phone running the Ubuntu mobile operating system. Backers committing USD 600 on the first day of the fundraising drive or USD 830 thereafter will receive one of the handsets. The Ubuntu Edge offers the features of both a smartphone and PC, Canonical said. It can dual-boot the Ubuntu phone OS and Android and transform into a PC when docked with a monitor. To
