Chile’s transport and telecommunications minister Gloria Hutt has confirmed that the latest undersea cable rolled out by Claro (America Movil) and Telefonica's infrastructure subsidiary Telxius has landed in the northern Arica and Parinacota region. The South Pacific Submarine Cable (SPSC), also known as Mistral, runs along the Latin American Pacific coast, linking Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru and Chile in direct connection with US servers.
The 7,300-kilometre undersea cable will eventually connect Puerto San Jose (Guatemala) with Valparaiso in southern Chile, with additional landing points in Salinas (Ecuador), Lurin (Peru) and Arica (Chile). It has a total transmission capacity of 72 Tbps and is set to begin operation by the middle of this year.
