Claro to remove roaming fees in Pacific Alliance

America Movil plans to remove international roaming fees for subscribers to its Claro brand in countries throughout the Pacific Alliance trading bloc of Peru, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, reports business daily El Economista. The plans were revealed by Carlos Slim, the honorary president of America Movil, at a Pacific Alliance summit in Mexico City, with the company planning to eliminate the charges starting as early as December. Slim said the aim was to “contribute to the integration of the Pacific Alliance through technology” and “stimulate more activity."

The president of America Movil’s board also announced plans to expand the Aprende.org educational platform beyond Mexico to other countries in the Pacific Alliance. The recently-launched platform offers numerous free courses as well as data-free access.
