Czech power corporation CEZ eyes acquisition of Vodafone Czechia - report

Czech power corporation CEZ is interested in the acquisition of Vodafone Czech Republic, reports Hospodarske Noviny, the Czech business newspaper. A decision on the deal is expected by this summer, the report said.

A spokesperson for Vodafone Czech Republic said that the operator is negotiating with the state-owned power company on various options for strategic cooperation, but declined to say whether an acquisition was among the scenarios under consideration. The operator didn't specify the potential areas of cooperation. CEZ declined any comment.

The daily newspaper reports that the companies are negotiating the value of the deal still. Vodafone Czechia has 3.95 million mobile customers and 581,000 fixed broadband subscribers.

CEZ owns MVNO CEZ Mobil working on the O2 network; the subscriber base is around 1,300. The power company planned to participate in the auction for 5G spectrum but dropped the plans due to the ongoing talks with Vodafone, the report said.
