The Danish Energy Authority said it has set a 23 May deadline for broadband providers to give precise details of address with poor coverage. It said DKK 200 million has been set aside for the period 2016 to 2019 to subsidise broadband in areas that lack broadband at up to 10 Mbps for downloads and 2 Mbps for uploads.
Premises without a service at 5 Mbps and 1 Mbps will get priority. Local councils and collective associations will be able to apply for funding towards their projects, but they will have to put up at least DKK 2,000 themselves.
The system will conform to European Union state aid rules, which means among other things that other broadband suppliers must have access to established infrastructure. It is expected that the subsidies will improve broadband service for between 4,000 and 25,000 homes, businesses and summer cabins.
The first round of applications will begin before the 2016 summer holiday season.
