DAZN apologises for opening day Serie A streaming issues

Sports streaming platform DAZN zn has issued a statement apologising for technical problems affecting some customers during the opening round of 2021-22 Serie A tournament. The company, which is now the main domestic Serie A rights-holder, said the issues mainly affected the Inter Milan-Genoa game and were due to a peak of traffic on a single CDN, which was resolved within a few minutes.

The company added that the introduction of new technologies would require “a phase necessary to allow further improvements” but that its commitment to revolutionising coverage of Italian football remained “absolute and unconditional.”

Italian daily La Repubblica said Lega Serie A has approached DAZN for clarification on the glitches, while communications watchdog Agcom is monitoring the matter and arranging meetings to discuss the service issues.

In March, DAZN agreed to pay EUR 840 million a season to acquire rights to Serie A games for the 2021-24 cycle, including 7 out of 10 each matchday on an exclusive basis and 3 on a co-exclusive basis with Sky Italia.
