Deutsche Telekom closes more deals to use municipal fibre networks

Deutsche Telekom announced it has closed a set of deals to use the fibre-optic infrastructure of five city network operators in the states of Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg as part of its ongoing fibre roll-out. Telekom has signed agreements to use the infrastructure of R-Kom in Regensburg, SUEC//dacor in Coburg, SWU Telenet in Ulm, the Municipal Utilities Network of Bamberg and Telepark in Passau. The five cooperations cover a total of roughly 125,000 households, half of which are connected through municipal FTTH/FTTB lines. The remaining half are connected through VDSL via FTTC.

The increased capacity use resulting from these deals should increase the profitability of fibre-optic upgrades for the city network operators, said Telekom. Telekom will market these lines as part of its 'Zuhause Start' products beginning in the spring of 2018, with marketing for FTTB/FTTH to follow later on.

The company has already entered into similar cooperations with NetCologne, innogy TelNet and EWE, with whom Telekom is establishing a joint venture to deliver FTTB/FTTH to over 1 million households.
