Deutsche Telekom introduces new platform to accelerate expansion of fibre network

Deutsche Telekom introduced a new platform to accelerate the expansion of its fibre network. The company unveiled the platform, and strategy, at the Fiberdays19 trade fair organised by Breko in Wiesbaden, Teltarif.de reports. The platform consists of three levels: network ownership (InfCo), network operation (NetCo) and the offering of services (ServCo).

For the network ownership, Deutsche Telekom sees municipal utilities building the fibre networks and then renting them out to Telekom at “area-specific” prices. Deutsche Telekom would have permanent right of use.

At the network operation level, Deutsche Telekom will only provide the supply and operation of networks components. It would be able to give products to third parties based on a wholesale model.

The third level includes service. Deutsche Telekom will act as a provider of services among competitors, to give access to the infrastructure. Municipal network operators can also become players under their own brand and with their own end customer management. Deutsche Telekom aims to improve its FTTH coverage through these type of partnerships.
