Disney+ to launch in Europe in March 2020

Disney announced new countries where its SVoD service Disney+ will launch next year. After the US, Canada, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand this month, the service will be available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain from 31 March 2020. Disney said in a tweet that more countries would be announced soon, and the content would vary for each country. 

Separately, the Wall Street Journal reports that Disney has struck a deal with Amazon to distribute the new streaming service on Amazon Fire boxes and TVs. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed on the company's earnings call the Amazon deal, as well as distribution on LG and Samsung smart TVs from the launch this month.

The Disney+ streaming service has attracted 28.6 million paid subscribers in the three months since launch on 12 November, Disney announced. For ESPN+ and Hulu, the number of paid subscribers as of 3 February went to 7.6 million and 30.7 million, respectively, according to figures released with the company's latest financial results.

Disney will have no Netflix ads on any of its entertainment TV networks - report

Disney had decided to have no advertising from Netflix on any of its entertainment TV networks, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the situation. Disney properties include ABC and Freeform and the upcoming Disney+. Netflix spent USD 1.8 billion on advertising in 2018,.with USD 99.2 million going to US TV ads. Of that amount, 13 percent went to Disney-owned entertainment networks, according to estimates from iSpot.TV.
