Docomo launches fresh LTE plans

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo will introduce new billing plans for its LTE service, Xi, from October. The announcement coincides with the launch of two tablets that support LTE technology. The first plan is a flat-rate plan suited to heavy data users and the second plan is a two-tiered plan that allows moderate data users to pay as they go, up to a set limit. Both plans will be available either with or without two-year contracts. The flat-rate data plan with a two-year contract (Xi Two-Year Data Plan Flat) will be priced at JPY 4,410 per month and comes with 7 GB of data. After the data is consumed, internet speeds will drop to 128 Kbps for the remainder of the month or customers can pay JPY 2,625 per 2 GB to continue downloading at the same speed. Without the two-year contract the plan is priced at JPY 5,880 per month. The Xi Two-Year Data Plan 2 is priced at JPY 2,500 for 9,524 KB of data and after that customers pay JPY 0.2625 per KB. Without a two-year contract the plan costs JPY 3,970 per month. The prices are valid until 30 April 2012 after which the prices will go up slightly.
