Docomo unveils LTE phones, new smartphone portals
NTT Docomo unveiled a new range of smartphones, including its first LTE handsets, while also announcing plans for new apps and content portals aimed at moving its i-mode customers to smartphones. The winter-spring device line-up includes seven smartphones in the 'with' series aimed at consumers, seven smartphones in the 'next' series for high-end or business users (including the LTE devices), eight feature phones in the 'style' series for consumers interested in multimedia content, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 and a photo panel. The company confirmed its first LTE smartphone, a version of Samsung's Galaxy S II, will be available in November or December, followed by the Arrows X LTE (F-05D) and Optimus LTE (L-01D) handsets in December and the Medias LTE (N-04D) in February. Its earlier announced LTE data plans will also be available from November. Docomo is offering unlimited data at the maximum speed of 75Mbps until September next year, after which it will start charging an extra fee to maintain the speed after 7GB of monthly downloads. Also in November, the operator will launch two new services for smartphone users: dmenu and dmarket. The dmenu portal will provide a wide range of apps and other content from diverse providers, as well as enriched versions of Docomo's popular i-mode content, optimized for use on smartphones. The new dmarket content store will offer content including movies, music, e-books and Android applications.
