E-Plus confirms LTE network launch at start-March
German mobile network operator E-Plus will launch LTE services for all customers from early March. It will offer LTE mobile data to all customers at no extra cost, compared to rival operators who charge extra for high-speed mobile broadband services. The move is part of the operator's 'Highspeed for Everyone' initiative, with the maximum available LTE speeds to be made available across all network partners and brands. This initiative runs until 30 June.

E-Plus drops roaming charges for pre-paid customers

German mobile network operator E-Plus has dropped roaming charges for pre-paid customers travelling within the EU from start-March. Ortel, Mobilka and Ay Yildiz will follow from 11 April, followed by other group brands and partners soon after. This is part of the E-Plus 'Roam like Home' campaign and follows the launch of the 'EU Reise Flat' tariff for contract customers.

ZTE, E-Plus show HD live video broadcast over TD-LTE

ZTE, German mobile network operator E-Plus and CloudStreet are planning to demonstrate HD live video broadcast capability over a TD-LTE mobile network. E-Plus and ZTE have developed a high performance UMTS and LTE FDD network in Germany. Using the CloudStreet capacity reservation system, they are planning live video transmission over the E-Plus 3.5G TD-LTE network extension.

E-Plus targets graduates with new work, training scheme

German mobile network operator E-Plus will launch the 'Echtzeit' work experience and training programme for Bachelor and Masters degree graduates in summer 2014. The initiative is aimed at young professionals who want to learn about successful project work and try out their own ideas in a business environment. Up to 10 successful applicants will spend 12 months with the company working on a digital business project. They will be able to develop their own start-up ideas and present them to E-Plus management.

The EU is set to object to the proposed acquisition of German mobile network E-Plus by Telefonica Deutschland, reports Reuters citing two unnamed source familiar with the matter. The sources said that Telefonica would soon receive a formal complaint outlining the EC's concerns about how the merger could harm competition.

Telefonica Deutschland (O2 Germany) shareholders have approved capital measures related to the acquisition of E-Plus and resolved a conditional capital. They approved a cash capital increase with subscription rights for the shareholders by up to EUR 3.7 billion with an approval rating of 99.99 percent. They also approved the authorisation of the Management Board for a capital increase by contribution in kind by up to EUR 475 million by 99.98 percent. German mobile network operator E-Plus Group added over 1.5 million new customers in 2013, with the total number of customers on its network breaking the 25 million mark in January 2014.
