EC clears Microsoft's USD 7.5 bln GitHub buy
The European Commission has approved Microsoft’s acquisition of software development tool maker GitHub without conditions, saying there were no anti-trust concerns. “The Commission found that the combination of Microsoft and GitHub’s activities on these markets would raise no competition concerns because the merged entity would continue to face significant competition from other players on both markets,” said the EC in a statement.

The GitHub acquisition was first announced in June, with Microsoft committing to ensure GitHub retains its developer-first ethos and continues operating independently to provide an open platform covering all industries. The company said it would also look to accelerate enterprise use of GitHub, and bring its own developer tools and services to new audiences.
