Free unveils new Freebox STB models, launches new broadband plans with Netflix

French operator Free has unveiled two new Freebox versions, each available with new broadband plans that include Netflix Essentiel within the monthly subscription. The premium model, named Freebox Delta, will be available for purchase as part of a triple-play bundle priced EUR 49.99/month, while the cheaper version, Freebox One, will cost EUR 39.99/month, with no minimum contract for both subscriptions. Free’s other three bundles (Revolution, Mini 4K, and Crystal) remain available for new and existing customers.

Freebox  Delta

The new premium Freebox combines equipment with several new advanced features, including improved Wi-Fi connectivity. The modem is offered at no extra cost, while the 4K-compatible set-top box is priced EUR 480 when purchased outright (or EUR 10/month over 48 months). Freebox Delta supports the Amazon Alexa virtual assistant, alongside the operator’s own assistant OK Freebox, is equipped with a 1 TB NAS drive, and incorporates a sound system made by Devialet.

For customers who need home security services, the box can be integrated with a number of components such as a security camera and sensors, which work autonomously over Sigfox’s IoT network. It is also compatible with the Philips ‘Hue’ lighting products and with Somfy’s smart home range.

The broadband connection enabled over FTTH has improved to up to 8 Gbps (400 Mbps upload). The addition of DSL and LTE bonding delivers hybrid DSL-LTE access with theoretical speeds of 200 Mbps (60 Mbps upload), subject to coverage.

Alongside the new Netflix Essentiel service, the premium Delta bundle includes access to the Canal Plus TV package already offered with the Freebox Revolution bundle. Free has also partnered with digital magazine news-stand LeKiosk to offer customers unlimited press content.

Freebox One

Like the Delta model, the second addition to the Freebox range has been styled by designer Jasper Morrison. The 4K-compatible set-top box incorporates a FTTH/DSL modem, enabling speeds of up to 1 Gbps (400 Mbps upload). Alongside the VoIP and Freebox TV services, it includes Netflix Essentiel as part of the bundle. As a promotional offer, the first 100,000 sign-ups will receive a EUR 10 discount on the EUR 39.99 monthly subscription during the first year.
