French carriers launch Buyster web and m-payment system
French mobile payment company Buyster will launch its online payment service on 13 September, a move intended to improve payment transaction security over the interent and deliver a payment platform suitable for m-commerce. Buyster is launching the service with the backing of shareholders Atos Origin, Orange France, SFR and Bouygues Telecom (25% each) and the Banque de France's approval. When the tie-up was first announced, it was described as France's answer to PayPal, Google and Apple in the online transaction sector. Buyster offers the possibility of associating a bank card with a mobile phone number. It will be possible to pay over the internet using a fixed or mobile phone without releasing bank details. Buyster's dual authentication rests on the use of any mobile phone for ID and password entry and the fact that banking information will not be sent over the internet. Buyster will be available free for all mobile devices, regardless of the operator.

French m-commerce revenues are projected to reach EUR 5 billion or more in 2015, reports France Mobiles citing a study by Xerfi-Precepta. SFR to launch NFC payment with MasterCard

French operator SFR will launch a m-wallet in partnership with MasterCard in the middle of October, Les Echos reports. 77% of French use online banking, 7% of them on mobile

French internet users are increasingly using the internet to interact with financial services, with the percentage rising by 2 points to 77 percent in March, compared to March 2011. France adds 3.2 million online shoppers in one year - study

France had about 3.2 million new online shoppers in the third quarter, 12 percent growth on a year earlier, according to Mediametrie//NetRatings. Over a third of French use m-banking - survey

Over a third of French consumers have used their mobile phone to conduct at least one bank operation, according to an end-October study by Institut BVA on behalf of internet bank ING Direct.
