HMD debuts first 3 Nokia smartphones at MWC

HMD Global, the new company with a license to make Nokia-brand phones, has unveiled its first smartphones at Mobile World Congress. The initial range includes low, mid-range and high-end models as well as new version of the classic Nokia 3310 feature phone. The smartphones will all run Android Nougat and integrate the Google Assistant software. Local launch dates will be announced in the next month, with sales expected to start worldwide in Q2.

For the high end of the market, the Nokia 6 is a single-body aluminium design with 5.5-inch full HD screen and Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 series chip. It was launched already last month, exclusively in China. The company says the phone offers an "immersive audio" experience with smart audio amplifier, dual speakers and Dolby Atmos. It will be available in a choice of four colours for EUR 229. The Arte Black Limited Edition features higher specifications of 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage and will sell for EUR 299.

At the mid-range, the Nokia 5 is a compact smartphone designed to fit easily in the hand, with a 5.2-inch IPS HD display. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and Adreno 505 graphics processor. Also available in four colours, the Nokia 5 is priced at EUR 189.

At the low end, the Nokia 3 is "designed to deliver an outstanding experience with unprecedented value", retailing for EUR 139. It features an aluminium frame, 5-inch display and 8MP wide aperture cameras front and back. It will come in a choice of Silver White, Matte Black, Tempered Blue and Copper White.

The new Nokia 3310 has been refreshed with a more modern look and will be available in Warm Red and Yellow, both with a gloss finish, and Dark Blue and Grey with a matte finish. Priced at EUR 49, it promises 22 hours of talk time and a month on stand-by.

As part of resurrecting Nokia's greatest hits, HMD said it's also launching a new version of the game Snake. It will be available free to play on Messenger, as part of Facebook’s Instant Games platform, and is designed to be played with groups of friends as part of the social media experience. A full range of accessories, including headsets, portable and Bluetooth speakers, in-car chargers, cases and screen protectors, will also be available for the new Nokia phones.
